Creative & Accessible Content Creator, School of Arts and Creative Technologies, University of York (Hybrid)

This is a 12 week part-time (12 hours per week) internship on a hybrid working basis.

The School of Arts and Creative Technologies at the University of York is a hub for innovative research and practice in the creative arts. Our Enhancing Audio Description (EAD) team is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of accessible media experiences for visually impaired audiences through cutting-edge sound design practices and spatial audio technologies. 


Project details: 

We're excited to offer an internship opportunity as part of our project titled Creative and Accessible Content Creation. The internship focuses on content creation for the Enhancing Audio Description project. You will work closely with our team to help develop creative and accessible content to promote the research project.

Your own creative and technical input will be key for the following tasks:

  1. Editing and transcribing podcast episodes
  2. Creating demo videos showcasing our EAD sound design methods
  3. Creating content on the project which showcases different staff members and stakeholders

 

We are looking for someone with: 

Essential:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong audio and video production skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of disability and accessibility in the creative industries
  • An interest in audio transcription and podcasting
  • An interest in accessibility within the creative industries

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the creation of content for research or marketing

 


What the intern can gain from this internship:

By participating in this internship, you will gain valuable experience in podcast production, content creation, and accessible media development. You will have the opportunity to work with a dedicated team of researchers and practitioners, develop your skills in editing, transcription, and video production, and contribute to the growth of our project. Additionally, you will gain insight into the importance of accessibility and representation in the creative industries and how innovative sound design practices can enhance media experiences for visually impaired audiences.

This internship is open to all students of the University of York who will be registered with the University, and who will be based in and have the legal right to work in the UK, for the duration of the internship. Project work during semester will be limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week. For postgraduate students we consider semesters to include the summer vacation. Please note that students studying on a student visa may not exceed 20 hours of paid work (including voluntary work) per week during semester.

Right to work documentation: Any applicant who is offered this internship will be asked to provide evidence of their right to work in the UK before beginning the internship. This will involve providing a copy of your passport to the University’s HR Team. If you are a non-EU national your passport should contain details of your student visa confirming that you have obtained permission to work. You will be contacted with further instructions on how to complete a Right to Work check if you are offered the role.

You must be eligible to work in the UK and have a valid National Insurance (NI) number to complete this internship.  If you are in the application process for an NI number at the time your internship is due to start, you can start work, however please note the University of York Casual Worker Team will require you to provide your NI number as soon as possible.
