Marketing Assistant, Student Recruitment & Marketing, University of York (Hybrid)

This is a 6-week part-time (10 flexible hours per week) internship on a hybrid working basis. Approximately 7 hours per week will need to be completed on Monday in person, with the remaining hours being worked flexibly over the rest of the week.

In the University of York Marketing Team, we use student-generated content in everything we do, promoting York to a wide range of potential applicants (mainly UK-based learners aged 16 to 18). This includes commissioning blogs and vlogs for our Student Voices platform, and paid ads on social media.

We’re always looking to improve what we do, and to use fresh perspectives to help us be at our best. We’d love someone to research how our audiences like to interact with student content, suggest improvements to our platforms, and make engaging content for our future campaigns.

Project details

Over this 6-week project, you’ll evaluate the effectiveness of the student content we’ve put out over the past year, bringing together recommendations on how to make it more engaging. You’ll then create content for us to help promote York life to our UK undergraduate audiences.

At the start of the internship, we’ll discuss how you’d like to tackle the project – sharing your experiences, gathering student feedback, researching other universities, suggesting content ideas, and creating the content itself.

You’ll work towards a presentation in your final week, telling senior leaders what you’ve found and what you’ve made.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A good understanding of Gen Z’s content preferences across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube
  • Knowledge of our audiences, their needs, and the key selling points of the University and city of York
  • An ability to film and feature in video content, and edit it for a variety of social platforms
  • Prior experience of organising a project, from the planning stages to delivery and evaluation
  • Good self-motivation skills and proactivity to progress assigned work, with and without supervision
  • Confidence in communicating with a range of stakeholders, including students and staff

What the intern can gain from this internship:

  • Opportunity to expanding your knowledge of diverse marketing practices and processes within a large organisation
  • Experience of creating content to pre-defined briefs and brand guidelines
  • Opportunity to contribute to the creative output of the university
  • Insight into a busy office environment
  • Further soft skills development
